The name chapter was given to this room because a chapter of St Benedict’s Rule was read there every day.

It is the room for the deliberations and the votes of the community concerning important decisions to be taken, such as : the Abbot’s election, the reception of a novice, the foundation of another monastery, the purchase or the sale of goods, the construction of a new building, the material administration and maintenance of the abbey, etc.
